Hi experts,
We want to deploy the unattended/Scheduled Start SAP and stop SAP in IBM i series. How to do it? I have tried with WRKJOBSCDE and putted the command STOPSAP or STARTSAP but after finishing the job, now result. But when I simply put command STOPSAP/STARTSAP it works(start and stop sap system).
How to deploy it?

We've encountered an odd problem in our ECC 6.0 development system. The system is reporting all the secondary indexes on MARA don't exist at the database level. All the logical files are still there but when we look at data base relations for MARA none of the index files are displayed. We're trying to track down what happened and we don't see any journal receiver entries for the indexes, for example "MARA+A".
Any suggestions or ideas on where to look?

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to see if anyone ran across this issue during the DB clone phase using the newest SUM tool. It appears that the last table to process was WDY_INTF_IMPLEM. I've checked the table in SE16 as well as Querying it through iSeries Navigator with no issues. The permissions on the table look good as well. Is there anything else I can check?

We are running SAP BW on IBM i and DB2 is the Database. So, in SAP BW, physical partitioning can be possible ? Physical partitioning is a database partiotioning correct ? For that, separate license required in DB2 ?

In our SCM production system, we use the the program given by SAP for managing the journal receivers..It deletes an old journal from the journal library and saves it to a another library, which we back off everynight...
Now all of a sudden, the program is not able to delete one of the old journals, and hence the subsequent journals are also not deleted, and hence our ASP is shooting up.
The reason code for not being able to delete the journal, its showing as Message ID CPF7024, reason Code # 2...which basically states that :
2 -- The receiver contains entries for changes that are not committed or
rolled back. These entries are necessary for IPL recovery operations.
This receiver is from last night...Is there a way to commit these or look at what has not been committed, so that we can delete the journals....
I have not brought down the system so far(offline)...and have not tried deleting this journal after that. I am speculating that it may give me the same message after that as well...
Any suggesstions?? Will it be alright if i bring down the system and then try the operation...??

Hello All,
Is there someone having any kind of experience or opinion on running SAP within a hosted partition, where the hosted partition is replicated on page level to a second machine (where the SAP environment is also in a hosted partition) with Geo Mirror? I 'm aware of at last the recovery time needed to startup the SAP environment on the secondary partition/box.

We have done a archive with some objects and we found there are huge deleted rows in tcode DB12. And it is showing the wasted space(about 30 GB) also. Now we need to reorganized the tables from which we removed the data. What is the best practice for it? I feel comfort in IBM I access navigator.
It is difficult to have downtime in our SAP System, I want to get wasted space by using online reorganization. I want to put the tick mark on all the options under Table partition option. Please let me know what will be the best case.

We are running SAP BW 7.3 on IBM i and DB2 as database.
Recently out data load jobs are slow as compared to earlier. So I am trying to investigate reason behind the slow. When I check the largest tables in SAP BW ( note : 706478 ), below tables result for count rows are,
select count(*) from R3P37DATA."RSUICDONE"; 1135809
As for as I know the data from RSMONI* and RS*DONE tables can be be deleted. That will give significant performance improvement.
But what about the other tables data ? Is that can be deleted ? please advice. Thanks in advance.

Well, very soon i am going to start doing day-to-day and also heavy basis administration activities in a client with DB2 and IBM i 6.1x; i have solid knowledge on other OS/DB platforms but i've never done activities neither on DB2 nor in AS 400 / IBM i, let alone both combined. So, does the timing in activities like kernel update/upgrade, DB update/upgrade or system copy varies that much?
If it is possible, i will need an estimate on:
- Kernel update/upgrade.
- System Copy.
Also i need some pointers in finding good documentation, since i can't find any certification workshop or official SAP book for this combination, all i find is DB2 for LUW.

We are in the process of upgrading BW 7.0 to 7.4 sp7 on iseries V7R1M0
We started the upgrade back in May but ran into a license problem -
We received the license and deleted the /usr/sap/xxx/sum directory
Downloaded the latest packages + SUM
started and started again in August
got a sql 901 in phase MIND_SHDIMP/Parmvnt_shd on CRMCHKEXC
got around that by deleting the primary index and recreating -
but failed again on somethingelse -
We tried to do the reset but got a http gui error -
We cleared and restored the data library r3xxxdata from prior to the August start date - and
deleted the sum directory /usr/sap/xxx/sum
I am getting ready to unpack the files and
start over however I am looking at the UVERS, PUTTB_SHD & PUTTB in
the system and they already show sap release 740 and UVERS has an i as putstatus
my Q&A and Productions systems show 700 in these files and the UVERS have a + as putstatus
I have a message open with SAP so far they are looking for logs I no longer have -
I was going to start the upgrade again - but wanted to check if the status on these tables need to change first -
If so - how?

I was looking at usr/sap/trans/log and see a lot of old logs.
I ran tp check all and it created a report
The report showed more than 8,000 log files that can be deleted in the usr/sap/trans/log
Can I delete these old log files or is this going to create more problems for me.

It is very possible that in a matter of weeks i'll be in the need of doing a Homogeneous System Copy for a new customer on their SAP landscape.
Source: IBM i 6.1 / DB2 6.1
Target: IBM i 7.2 / DB2 7.2
Normally doing a homogeneous system copy to a newer DB version works with no issues, so i am assuming that this is also possible on IBM i platform with DB2, right? If this is right, should i go with DB dependent or with DB independent method?
Are there any system copy pointers you can give me as an OS/400 rookie?

Hi Everyone,
I am dead in the water with my test install of EhP5 using the most current installer. This small test is on an older iseries, V5R4 with 8G memory. The SAP version is ECC 6.0 at sp Basis 23 and Applications at 19.
The install stops at Start Shadow First, but the instance and work processes are up on the server. The log- SAPehpiConsole reads:
Severe error(s) occured in phase MAIN_SHADOW/START_SHDI_FIRST!
Last error code set: RFC call to upg_is_shadow_system failed with key
RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE (open): Error while reading a dynpro

So I have a problem communicating with the shadow. Or is it a problem with the db_open?
From the test system I have an entry in SM59 to the shadow and I get this error when trying a connection test.
Error Details Error while reading a dynpro.
And trying to logon to the client sends the same message, it does not bring up the login screen.
OK. So in the 3 weeks that I have restarted, re-set and completely restored and restarted the install, I have always come to this point. I have search for similar issues and have done a review of pertinent notes etcu2026 Just as a comment, last year I successfully did the Ehp 4 upgrade without many problems on this same system using last years SAP system. In the month that I have been trying to do this, SAP has replaced the EHPI installer 3 times which indicates some problems on their part.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Two iSeries – DEV and PRD – connected by a T1 circuit
/usr/sap/trans is on PRD
Both systems kernel 720_EXT, patch level 513, OS at V7R1 - ptf's are current
DEV – parallel processes set to 2 – for HR year end packages/Phase 1 – 8.5 hours
PRD – parallel processes set to 1 – same HR year end packages – 50 minutes
Will upping the parallel processes on DEV to 4 or 5 actually help?

As i already stated on some of my previous threads, as a BASIS consultant i am a rookie on IBM for i Platform, so i wanted to know if you can tell me which IBM Tools i must have installed on a Windows Server (or Computer) to be able to do full administration tasks on both OS and DB (DB2 for i) level? Also if there are multiple alternatives tools for a same task it would be great if you can mention them. Current customer platform is IBM i & DB2 for i v6.1.

We wanted to reconfigure STMS in order to meet the chaRM requirement.
Current STMS configuration
Dev & qa is on one LPAR .& Prod is on different Lpar. Distance Between DEV/QA & Prod is almost 500 miles.
We use FTP method at OS level to transfer respective cofile & datafile from dev/qa server to Prod server.We have two different domain controller.i.e two different trans directory on iseries.
Problem :
If we combine two trans directory to one then, there is drastic performance issue. In order to sync buffer from DEV/QA to PRD , it takes more than a 10 min for one TR.
We wanted to implement chaRM in our environment so in order to perform the same we would need first combine or have common domain & trans dir
OS : IBM I AS400
DB : DB400
SAP application running on IBM-i with ext. discs (SAN)
attached with SVC (SAN-Volume-Controller) and StorageSystems
(IBM StorwizeV5000 + IBM-Flash840 together in one StoragePool with EasyTier).
we heared about the advice of putting the DB-journal-receiver (*JRNRCV) in separate ASP to be sure to be located on Flash only?
is it recommended?
does EasyTier work well on IBM-i, because IBM-i is using/seeing all discs as one storage (single-storage)?
are these twoconcepts notevencontradictory?
are there experiencesorrecommendations?
